Yep you read that right, healthier chocolate. Now I know what you are thinking, that can’t be as good as the real thing but you’d be wrong. I have tried numerous healthy alternatives over the years and> I would go as far as to say Supertreats Bars are up there with the best. They even impressed my husband>. Supertreats are a carob alternative to chocolate, containing no refined sugar and> are made with 100% natural organic free. Plus they have the added bonus of being caffeine and> theobromine free, stimulants which can cause energy spikes and> crashes.
A stand>ard 50g bar of chocolate can contain up to 6 teaspoons of refined sugar with the same amount of caffeine as an espresso shot. Yes really! During pregnancy it is recommended that you limit your caffeine intake and> whilst I don’t eat huge amounts of chocolate I do enjoy the odd treat. And I never considered the impact chocolate would have on my overall caffeine intake. But it is not just a consideration for pregnant ladies. Naturally found in coffee, tea and> cacao (chocolate) both caffeine and> theobromines are considered stimulants. And they can have a huge effect on our wellbeing. They can disrupt your blood sugar levels, sleep patterns and> increase stress levels, anxiety and> depression. Plus they are addictive, causing quite unpleasant withdrawal symptoms and> a vicious cycle of over dependence. Now I am not one to tell you to never eat chocolate, I am all about balance after all. But if there is a great tasting, healthier alternative without these stimulants then that has to be a bonus.
Supertreats – Goodness for Kids, Joy for all
Well Supertreats have managed to do just that. Believe me when I say these bars taste incredible. They have a really smooth authentic chocolate taste and> you wouldn’t know they are so good for you. Out of the 3 flavours currently available Silky Milky is definitely my favourite. It was so silky and> creamy, with an almost treacle taste to it. Amazing. The other 2 fruity flavours Merry Berry and> Cheery Chia are also great though. The Merry Berry Bar contains mini chunks of blueberry, often deemed a superfood you are getting a double hit of goodness here. And finally the Cheery Chia, is a chocolate orange lovers dream. Containing another superfood chia seeds, and> orange oil this is definite winner. These bars are a guilt free treat for all the family.
But why just take my word for it, check out the Supertreats site for yourself for more information on their fabulous bars CLICK HERE. Or you can grab some and> taste for yourself. You can purchase them in store at Planet Organic, Whole Foods or Budgens and> online at Ocado or through Amazon.
