Stress, something we all experience at some point in our lives.  The feeling of being under too much mental or emotional pressure.  This leads to stress when you feel like you can’t cope.  As I mentioned in a previous post I have quite a lot going on in my life at the moment, and> I am definitely feeling a little bit stressed. Stress can also be a nightmare when trying to lose or maintain your weight.  Stress releases a hormone called cortisol which has been linked to increased appetitie and> possibly cravings for “junk” food.

Often we deal with stress in quite unhealthy ways.

Alcohol, Smoking, Binge eating, procrastinating are common but if your methods of coping are not aiding your emotional and> physical well being then maybe you need to try some new techniques.Stress Relief - Walking

When you’re stressed the last thing you may feel like doing is exercising but it is a great stress reliever.  Exercise releases endorphins, and> endorpins make us happy.  You don’t have to spend hours in the gym. Go for a walk or pop on some music and> dance around.  Along with exercise try and> maintain a healthy diet. A well nourished body can is better equipped to deal with stress. Try and> avoid temporary highs like caffeine and> sugar, which can cause crashes later.  

A problem shared is a problem halved.

Stress Relief - FriendsSometimes we just need someone to talk to.  Sharing whatever is causing you to feel stressed can really help, so make time to see friends and> talk.  Spending time with friends can be a great stress reliever, and> friends can often make us laugh and> relax which will only help with stress levels.

So often we are so quick to always focus on the negatives, and> what might be going wrong.  But try and> take some time to think about the positives there will some! We don’t always appreciate what we have.  Why not try to be a bit more glass half full than always glass half empty.  And finally we have to just accept things we can’t change.  I know this is easier said than done but changing a difficult situation just can’t always be done.  Focus on what you can do, and> how you can make the situation better or what you can do not what you can’t do.

I know I can be guilty of letting situations get on top of me.  But I know the above do work, I just need to take my own advice!
