Christmas wouldn’t be Christmas to me without cheese, and> I have been known to over indulge. Now as I’ve mentioned we should allow ourselves to indulge in some of our favourites at this time of year. But if you do want to offer some healthier alternatives, check out my top tips below:

Healthier Options:

Goats – Low in calories and> saturated fat but also rich in essential nutrients. Nutrients such as vitamin A, vitamin B, riboflavin, calcium, iron, phosphorus, magnesium, and> potassium

Provolone – An all-purpose semi-hard Italian cheese with a firm texture and> a mild, smoky flavour.

Emmental – low fat, low sodium, high protein and> high calcium. Mild and> slightly nutty it is what most people picture when they think of Swiss cheese.

Gruyere – A hard Swiss cheese, it is high in calcium. With a sweet and> slightly salty flavour, it a lovely option.

Camembert – Soft and> creamy yet low in fat, so slightly lower in calories due to the high water content. A great creamier option.

There are also some ways you can add nutritional benefits to your board, which will help fill you up.

Healthy Additions

Fruit. Fruit goes so well with cheese, and> may help stop you from overindulging on the main event. Grapes or apple slices are great choices.

Add Nuts. Throw on some nuts, they go great with cheese, specifically walnuts. Full of fibre and> healthy omega 3 fats.

Choose your Crackers wisely. Aim to get some lower calorie crackers and> try to buy ones without too many ingredients!

Indulge in your favourites at Christmas and> don’t feel guilty! What is your favourite cheese? Will you be adding healthier options to your board? I’d love to know what you think, comment below.
